Inspired Home: A Natural Bath Retreat

The bathroom is getting a makeover for 2027— think creamy warm tones, soft beige and tan, natural wood, beautiful stone, warm metals, textured tile, and lighting that makes the whole room feel relaxing.

At Holliday Homes, these are elements we’ve been incorporating into our own homes here in Davidson. We find our homeowners are drawn to spaces that feel warm, natural, and timeless rather than overly polished or tied to a particular trend.

We saw that design direction come together in the final phase of Davidson Springs, where we incorporated softer colors, natural materials, and warmer wood tones into the homes. Those same ideas are influencing the homes we’re designing next, including our upcoming homes at The Estates at Davidson Farms and The Preserve at Summit Farms.

If you’re designing a custom home, here are a few of the bathroom looks we’re especially excited about.

Warm Neutrals Are Taking Over

Just like kitchens, bathrooms are moving toward warmer color palettes. Instead of bright white everything, homeowners are choosing creamy whites, beige, taupe, sand, mushroom, and soft earthy tones. These colors are perfect for bathrooms because they create a calm backdrop without making the room feel sterile, and they’re easy to layer.

A warm beige tile paired with a natural wood vanity and creamy countertop can feel incredibly cozy. Add a brushed brass or bronze fixture, and suddenly you have a bathroom that feels sophisticated but still comfortable.

This softer palette is one we’ve embraced in our recent Holliday Homes designs, and it’s a direction we plan to continue carrying into our upcoming Davidson homes.

Natural Wood Vanities Are Bringing Warmth

Natural wood is one of our favorite ways to warm up a bathroom. A white oak or walnut vanity can completely change the feeling of the room. Instead of everything being tile, stone, and porcelain, the wood introduces a natural element that makes the space feel more inviting.

A simple, clean-lined oak vanity can look very modern when paired with a stone countertop, large-format tile, and streamlined plumbing fixtures.

We particularly love the contrast of natural wood against softer neutral tile. It creates just enough warmth and character without making the space feel busy.

The Bathroom Is Becoming a Retreat

Your primary bathroom can be a place to slow down at the end of the day. That means features like larger showers, comfortable shower seating, generous niches, freestanding tubs, layered lighting, and thoughtful storage are becoming increasingly important.

But the feeling of the space matters just as much as the features.

Warm materials, soft colors, natural textures, and good lighting can make a bathroom feel more like a private retreat than a purely functional room. That idea is especially important to us as custom homebuilders. We’re not simply selecting beautiful finishes—we’re thinking about how someone will actually experience the room every day.

Natural Stone Adds Character

Natural stone is another material that fits beautifully into this warmer design direction. Instead of perfectly uniform surfaces, homeowners are becoming more comfortable with natural variation. Veining, movement, and subtle changes in color give a bathroom personality without requiring a lot of decoration.

A stone countertop can be beautiful on its own, but using the same or complementary stone in a shower or backsplash can create an especially cohesive look. When paired with warm wood and neutral tile, the result feels timeless and connected to nature.

That combination of wood + stone + warm neutrals is one we’re particularly excited to explore in our upcoming Holliday Homes.

Tile Is Showing Off Natural Variations

Tile is another place where we’re seeing a shift away from overly polished finishes. Warm-toned tile, handmade-look tile, subtle texture, and natural variations can add a lot of interest to a bathroom without overwhelming the space. Large-format tile can create a clean, streamlined look, while smaller or more textured tile can bring personality to a shower floor, niche, or accent wall.

A bathroom can be almost entirely neutral and still have plenty of visual interest when you mix different shapes, textures, finishes, and materials.

This layered approach was part of the design direction we embraced in the final phase of Davidson Springs, and it’s something we’ll continue to carry into the homes we design throughout Davidson.

Texture Is Doing the Heavy Lifting

When you’re working with a palette of cream, beige, tan, and natural wood, texture becomes especially important. Think about pairing smooth stone with textured tile, natural wood with polished fixtures, honed surfaces with subtle glossy accents, ribbed or fluted cabinetry with simple countertops, and soft textiles with hard natural materials.

None of these details have to scream for attention. In fact, the most successful spaces often let the materials speak for themselves.

By layering subtle textures and natural finishes, you can create a bathroom that feels interesting and thoughtfully designed without relying on bold colors or dramatic patterns.

Warm Metals Are Adding Just Enough Contrast

Cool chrome and polished nickel will always have their place, but we’re seeing more interest in warmer metal finishes. Brushed brass, bronze, and other warm-toned metals pair beautifully with the organic palette that’s becoming popular in bathrooms.

Imagine a creamy tile shower, an oak vanity, a natural stone countertop, and brushed brass plumbing fixtures. The result has contrast, but it still feels cohesive and relaxed.

Warm metals are also a great example of how a relatively small detail can change the overall feeling of a space. The right hardware and plumbing finishes can bring warmth to an otherwise neutral bathroom without overpowering the natural materials.

A Few Curves Can Make a Big Difference

We’re also seeing softer shapes make their way into bathroom design. Rounded mirrors, curved vanities, arched niches, freestanding tubs, and sculptural light fixtures can soften all of the hard surfaces that naturally exist in a bathroom.

You don't need to redesign the entire room around curves. Even one rounded mirror or a softly shaped tub can add a little visual interest and make the space feel more relaxed.

Bringing These Ideas Into Our Upcoming Davidson Homes

One of the things we love about being a custom homebuilder is that each project gives us an opportunity to refine what we’re doing and carry the best ideas forward.

These natural elements will influence the bathrooms we design for our three upcoming 2+acre lots at The Estates at Davidson Farms.

We’re also excited to bring this design approach to The Preserve at Summit Farms in Davidson. As one of just five custom homebuilders selected to build in this 60-acre agrihood, we love how naturally the community’s focus on wellness, nature, and connected living aligns with the warm, calming spaces we’re creating. With six lots to build on, we’re sure to see a lot of these natural materials that feel particularly appropriate in a community designed around natural living.
